Carl Chu was born in Taipei, and immigrated with his family to Downey, California, in 1980. After finishing graduate studies at Northwestern University, he worked as a transportation analyst in a Chicago consulting firm. There, after a particularly long cold snap in the winter of 1998, he decided to come home to pursue his lifelong interest in writing and publishing. In 2003, Chu published Finding Chinese Food in Los Angeles to critical acclaim, earning accolades from media including the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine, and Food & Wine Magazine. Mr. Chu is also a frequent guest on KCRW’s “Good Food” radio show. In his latest work, the Search for Sushi, Chu uses his inquisitiveness to explore all there is to know about sushi. It is a monumental piece of work that clarifies the sushi bar experience, and with which America's knowledge of sushi will be forever enriched. Mr. Chu travels frequently; yet he continues to prefer suburban Los Angeles as home. |
